I.      The Obligation

A.   Love is commanded, thus it is controllable

 

 

B.   The command is positive

Agape is the kind of love which desires only the highest good for its object

 

D.  Three kinds of love in NT:

philos

E.   Our response is to be total.

 

The total personhood of each individual is to be involved in the fulfillment of this obligation.

 

 

II.    The Object

A.   “The LORD” - Isaiah 57:15 God “inhabits eternity.”

 

B.   “Thy God”

 

 

III.  The Order

A.   God first, then others

 

No expression of the love of God toward others means no experience of the love of God in you.

 

No Christian should ever allow an adversarial attitude to prevail within him toward any other human being.

 

 

The Cross carries all the weight in our relationships
